William Hill Bingo Car Giveaway Glitches - 11-15-11

November 15 - In October this year, William Hill Bingo ran a generous 31 car giveaway promotion, where each day a lucky online bingo fan walked away with a brand new Fiat Panda or a Fiat 500. But things didn't go to plan.

The promotion suffered from a serious of glitches when it came to light that three of the first four winners did not have drivers licenses. As a result, William Hill executives even considered cancelling the promotion at one point.

"There were meetings at the highest level and they talked about pulling the promotion," confirmed a William Hill Bingo spokesperson. "It was absolute chaos, with changes having to be made to the drive away insurance policies, substituting the winners' names with those of their partners.

"When [winner] Laura said she'd failed her test three times, we were pulling our hair out. But it was decided to plough ahead as all the cars had been purchased, flyers put out, the posters up, adverts in place, a celebrity booked to front the campaign and a survey about luck commissioned.," he said.

To enter the William Hill Bingo car giveaway, players could earn points by buying bingo tickets and playing in side games, by hitting ball number 61 when playing in any of the bingo rooms or by earning competition points and heading the Car a Day leaderboard.

William Hill Car Winner Fails To Turn Up

Besides the winners who could not drive their new cars home, there was one winner who could not be located when her prize was announced. Spokesperson for William Hill, Tony Kenny said, "You couldn't make it up ? we had the vehicle ready on the low loader for the trip to Aberdeen."

"But then we failed to locate the winner, a lady called Shona ? who has the somewhat unusual Internet nickname of Big Momma."

At this stage of the promotion, William Hill was used to unusual scenarios and Aberdeen district manager for William Hill, Ian MacDonald picked up a megaphone and started to call for her on the streets of the city.

Having worked at William Hill for 26 years, MacDonald said this was the strangest thing he has had to do to date. "In all my years in the business I've never had such a big winner fail to turn up. Never in my entire career have we had to do anything like this."
