June 3 - With more and more bingo halls closing their doors in the United
Kingdom, many players have found that their only source of bingo entertainment
has been taken away from them. These players will be happy to learn that ITV1, a
local television station, will be launching a free bingo game on TV,
allowing them to stand in line to win a big jackpot if they are lucky enough.
The new show, Bingo Night Live, will screen instead of ITV1's much criticized
Play TV, which came under fire because of its play per pay service. ITV1, which
has always been sensitive to its viewers' complaints and comments, decided to do
away with Play TV and instead offer a free bingo service that should be better
accepted in the country.
The idea of free bingo game television is not a new one. Indeed, the service
has been offered in the United States, however it was not well accepted there
and eventually the show's creators decided to ditch it. It is believed, though,
that free bingo television will be more popular in the United Kingdom, not only
because the game is so much part of the cultural language.
As more bingo rooms are forced to close their doors because of high taxation,
smoking bans and other industry restrictions, gamblers are seeking out
alternatives. This explains the huge increase in the number of player seeking
online bingo fun, and is also the reason why industry analysts are sure that
Bingo Night Live will be popular.
Players will be able to download free bingo grids from the show's internet
site, cross off numbers as they are called on the live show and stand in line to
win generous jackpots.
Melinda Messenger, who will be co-hosting the show with Michael Underwood,
will have the role of announcing 'magic number draws', while Underwood will be
the official caller. "It's the nation's favorite game and accessible for all,"
said Underwood. "It's good clean fun, easy to play and, best of all, it's free."
