UK Gran Grabs Million Pound Bingo Jackpot - 07-03-08

July 3 - It's not every day that someone wins over a million pounds while playing their favorite bingo jackpot game, but that was the case for a 64 year old grandmother of three in the United Kingdom.

The anonymous player tried her luck at the National Bingo Game's Platinum Jackpot Playoff at the Gala Bingo Club in Southernhay, Basildon and was visibly shocked when she suddenly realized that she was the winner of over one million pounds!

A player who was in the club at the time of the woman's bingo jackpot win told of the moment. "You could see she was literally shaking in disbelief after they told her she'd won. They had to go and get a drink to help her calm her nerves. It really was a lovely moment and she got a standing ovation."

"It was marvelous to see so much goodwill for her," said the assistant manager of Gala Bingo, Bob Sidlow.

The lucky winner herself is struggling to come to grips with the extent of her win. She described the moments after she was told. "I am in total shock. I am still trying to get my head round it and it just won't sink in. I've never been a lucky person, only winning 10 Pounds or 20 Pounds in the past. Nothing big ever."

She explained how she broke the news to her husband. "I telephoned my husband after the win and said, 'I've won an awful lot of money. You'd better come down now.'", she said. "Then I put the phone down so he couldn't ask how much and I burst into tears. I asked the member of staff, who waited for him, to break the news very gently because of his heart condition."

"I couldn't sleep afterwards," she continued. "I gave up trying at 5.30 am and got up for a cup of tea. Later on I went out and cut the grass, the same as usual. I don't know what else to do. It is too much for me to take in."
