July 30 - Exciting online bingo game sessions were interrupted last Thursday
night after a power cut in Gibraltar affected the server that hosts a number of
top bingo sits in the industry.
Thousands of online bingo players were surprised to find themselves
without their favorite form of entertainment for a while, with the games and
tournaments failing to load. Frustrated players who thought the problem was with
one single site, were doubly surprised to find the same issue at rival sites
when they tried to log on.
Only later was it revealed that a massive power cut in Gibraltar had caused
the server to trip, thereby affecting bingo sites such as Foxy Bingo, Think
Bingo, 888 Ladies Bingo and others. While some sites were still accessible, all
of them could not load their games.
As soon as power came back on, all the fun online bingo games resumed. Sites
such as Wink Bingo immediately sent out emails to their players informing them
that the games had begun. One message read: "Wink Bingo is back up! Hello my
fellow winkers! I just wanted to inform you that Wink Bingo is back up! We can
all now continue having fun. Come and see how full the rooms are!"
The whole of Gibraltar experienced a power cut on Thursday that lasted up to
four hours in some areas. A switchgear panel at the Waterport power station blew
up, causing combustible material to ignite and the High Voltage switch room to
fill up with smoke.
While the Gibraltar electrical supply company apologized for any
inconvenience caused, many businesses - such as online bingo sites - were
affected for some time. The entire island experienced a full power cut at 2.30
pm, and power was only restored in some areas at 6.40 pm.
