Neteller Warns UK Bingo Against Phishing Scam - 03-17-08

March 17 - Online bingo players are always being warned to be on the lookout for any suspicious email that may originate from fraudsters trying to gain access to their accounts and remove their funds. In recent days, Neteller, the popular online payment service, has issued a statement to bingo players in the United Kingdom, urging them to disregard an email that was supposedly sent by this ebanking company.

According to Neteller's announcement, the email tells bingo players that the IP tracking on their casino accounts will be reinstated. The email reads: "This is a security measure to ensure the location of your login matches the country of your residence registered with your Neteller account."

The fraudulent email asks bingo players to give 'Neteller' permission to operate their accounts while they are away from home and requests that they click on a link to finalize the process. However, Neteller has warned that by clicking on the link, players are exposing their account details to the scammers and could essentially put their funds in the hands of these criminals.

The fake letter comes from 'communications@neteller' and advises all bingo players that Neteller will be reinstating its IP tracking system from the end of March. Neteller has reinterated that this is a scam and it would never send an email of this kind to bingo players, or any other account holders for that matter.

Neteller has requested that bingo players do not act on this email under any circumstances and have requested that they should be directed, instead to phishing@neteller.com so that that the company's security experts can investigate the matter more intensively. It is hoped that progress in this case will be made to prevent bingo players from being taken for a ride by online phishers.
