Make Genuine Friendships Through Online Bingo - 05-10-11

May 10 - It's always been known that online bingo players are a friendly bunch, but a new study commissioned by Virgin Games shows just how much online bingo contributes to the social lives of players.

The study asked 647 online bingo players about the social side of the game and the results were interesting.

44% of those polled said that they had made "genuine friendships" playing at Virgin Bingo, while 22% said that they regularly shared personal problems and family issues with their newfound friends.

A significant 34% said that online bingo had improved their social lives, while four out of those polled had gone on to form romantic partnerships with others players at VirginGames.

VirginGames Responds to the Survey

Alan Thomas, speaking for Virgin Games said: "When we put out this survey we really had no idea what to expect."

"We are genuinely thrilled that our customers get more than a bit of fun out of playing online bingo at VirginGames.com," he said. "It seems a number of them have truly enriched their social lives through new friendships and in one case a wedding."

He said that there is a lot of focus on the negative impacts of online gaming but the survey demonstrates that, for a lot of people, it provides a point of common interest and bring something to people's lives.

Online Bingo Replaces Land Bingo

But perhaps one of the most interesting findings of the survey was that fact that 69% said that online bingo gambling has replaced land based bingo halls.

"That 69 percent said they now use online bingo over a bingo hall is interesting to see," said Thomas. "People love the ease and availability of playing online. Going to bingo halls is associated with having a few drinks and perhaps smoking. Then there?s the added cost of transport to get you there. With the ever-rising cost of alcohol and transport coupled with the smoking ban, people are choosing the more affordable option of playing bingo at home and providing their own refreshments.
