May 22 - The UK National Bingo Game, which has become synonymous with
big wins across the country and is eagerly played by thousands of players each
week, will be pulled from up to one third of the bingo rooms following an
announcement by Gala Bingo.
The company has said that, effective August of this year, it would not be
offering the UK National Bingo Game, despite the fact that the game is such a
popular offering at bingo rooms.
It is thought that Gala Bingo wants to concentrate more on offering
its own bingo jackpot game, which is now allowed under new legislation.
The announcement is a bad blow to the UK National Bingo Game, which will find
it difficult to offer top jackpot prizes if one third of the country's bingo
rooms do not contribute to its funding.
Smaller jackpots will, in turn, affect some of the United Kingdom's smaller
bingo rooms which would be unable to compete with the larger companies in the
industry such as Gala and Mecca Bingo.
Industry experts predict that an even larger number of bingo rooms will be
forced to close down in an already plummeting market that has been badly
affected by the government's double-taxation policy that only applies to the
bingo industry, as well as the recent smoking ban in public places.
Since its launch in 1986, the UK National Bingo Game, which is linked through
a computer system to bingo clubs around the country, has paid out 1 billion GBP
in prizes, and over 1 million GBP is played for each week by players hoping to
win with lucky numbers.
