Four Old-Timers Accused of Skimming Bingo Money |
In Richmond, Kentucky, four seemingly sweet senior citizens proved anything but
sweet, when it was revealed that they had allegedly pocketed bingo receipts that
were earmarked for local charities, totaling over $782,000 during a three year
period.
The fearful foursome comprising 65-year old Cletis Merrill Adams, 64-year old
Gloria A. Williams, 63-year old Rita Faye Tipton and 60-year old Brenda Adams,
60, each pleaded not guilty to the charges.
Each of the accused were indicted earlier this month on one count each of
conspiracy to defraud the United States and three counts of income tax evasion
when they allegedly skimmed bingo proceeds from Jackpot Charity Bingo in
Richmond.
They then attempted to hide the fruits of their ill-gotten gains from the
Internal Revenue Service as well as from Richmond's Office of Charitable Gaming,
which oversees all bingo halls in the state of Kentucky.
Said Michael Dean, the lawyer representing Williams and Tiptono, 'I'm convinced that there is
no wrongdoing here. I believe in these ladies' innocence which I cannot say
about everyone I have represented.'
