Excitement Grows for National Bingo Caller of the Year - 05-01-08

May 1 - Players at bingo halls throughout the United Kingdom usually enjoy a great relationship with 'their' callers who manage to bring them hours of entertainment and a great vibe whenever they step foot into their favorite establishments.

The UK bingo industry honors these callers each year with the National Bingo Caller of the Year competition that chooses regional winners and one national winner from hundreds of applicants.

The race for this year's Bingo Caller of the Year competition is now on, and bingo fans are invited to submit the names of their favorite callers from anywhere in the country.

Last year's National Caller of the Year winner, Blake Robson, who works at the Mecca Bingo hall in South Shields, describes his victory: "When they first announced me as the winner, I was absolutely elated. Everything seemed to happen in a blur. I remember receiving the trophy. Within a few hours I was being interviewed on Radio Five Live, then the next morning I was guest on BBC's Breakfast program. It wasn't really until I walked into my club the following day and got a standing ovation that the sense of achievement in being Britain's best bingo caller really sank in."

Clearly life has not been the same for Robson since last year's win. "A couple of weeks later I was back in London to be trained as an Ambassador and media spokesman for the industry," he said. "That was a great experience. I learned so much in just one day, including lots of techniques to help me get the best of myself in an interview. Now it's only a few weeks until Denise and myself are off to Las Vegas, we can hardly wait. Winning this competition has made a tremendous difference to my life."
