Ex-Policeman Bingo Thief Gets Probation - 01-19-07

Like something out of a bad Quentin Tarantino film, a former Anderson, Indiana policeman has been sentenced to 24 months probation for his part in the theft of bingo proceeds from a Fraternal Order of Police lodge.

Ex-cop Chris Sollars pleaded guilty to two counts of official misconduct for transferring over $9 000 in bingo money from the Police lodge's accounts into his own bank accounts between 2003 and 2005.

As part of the plea agreement, a Madison County judge reduced the felonies to misdemeanours, thus allowing Sollars to keep his mortgage broker's license. The judge also ordered Sollars to repay the money within one year.

In November last year representatives of the lodge appointed a special prosecutor to investigate its finances after an internal lodge audit discovered that $45 000 was missing from the lodge's bingo account, which was overseen by Sollars.
