April 28 - A 23 year old citizen from the United Kingdom has shown just how
great his love for his favorite Gala bingo hall is, after he made a
heartfelt appeal to a magistrate to allow him to continue playing at the hall,
despite the issuance of an Anti Social Behavior Order (ABSO) against him.
The trouble began after Michael Dicker was arrested for two counts
of being drunk and disorderly conduct and one count of resisting arrest at the
Walkabout bar last month. In the scuffle leading up to his arrest, Dicker
injured a female officer's hand and knee as he struggled to get away from the
six officers that were needed to hold him down.
While Dicker admitted to having a drinking problem, he begged the magistrate
to allow him to continue to play at the Gala bingo hall in the city. Eventually,
his wish was granted, although he was banned from consuming alcohol and being
under the influence of alcohol in any licensed premises within the Carlisle city
center.
Michael Dicker was also handed a 12 month community service order and ordered
to pay minimal compensation to the injured officers.
An officer, speaking on the case, said that the police would continue to keep
a sharp eye on Dicker, especially when he visited the Gala bingo hall. "We will
monitor his behavior at the bingo hall and take early intervention if there are
any signs that he is drinking at the venue or becoming involved in anti social
behavior," he said.
He also added: "We hope that this ABSO will enable Dicker to break his cycle
of offending."
