Bingo Thieves Charged in Detroit - 08-11-06 |
A husband and wife were charged in Detroit, Michigan yesterday with
embezzlement, after being caught stealing the proceeds from bingo games
earmarked for senior citizens.
According to court records, Neal Greenfield, 41, of Westland and Shari
Greenfield, 39, of Livonia, skimmed over $20 000 from a venue where bingo games
were held, the Wayne Ford Civic League, between 1999 and 2004.
If convicted of their crime, each of the now-divorced accused faces a maximum of
10 years in prison.
The couple's bingo hall misdeeds were discovered during an audit of the Wayne
Ford Civic League.
It transpired that during Neal Greenfield's tenure as the
League president and his wife's tenure as vice president, large amounts of bingo
money went missing.
The court heard how the bingo funds in question were supposed to be used for
hosting League lunches, dinners and various other social events, and not for the
personal use of the Greenfields.
